I'll cut to the chase right off and tell you what technologies I use. I'm not a big fan of JAVA technology, so I don't do applets, servlets, beans, or JSP. Javascript is an entirely different animal altogether as I use it quite extensively (my 3D page uses a display system I developed). I can and have done work in Perl and Python, but my preference is working with PHP or ASP/.NET. I don't have any preference on servers; either Windows or Unix-based (including Mac OS X). And of course, good old HTML, which I am well-versed.

If you have no idea what I was talking about, I'll make it simple. If you want something built that's web-based, I can do it faster and better than most. I've been doing web development for over ten years and it shows in the speed at which I develop. I don't use any fancy development tools. I imagine how a page needs to look and build it from scratch.

My prices are very reasonable; not because my business is based on volume, but because it doesn't take me long to build websites. My hourly rate is $50 per hour, so a client that is well-prepared and is able to provide content and clear direction, it is not unreasonable to expect a bill anywhere between $400 - $1000 for a mostly static site. I always give an estimate beforehand with an expectation of hours I'll spend. If I quote too low and the project is consistent with what was presented to me beforehand, I'll only charge the quoted price. If my actuals hours are below what I estimated, then I will only charge the for the actual time I spend.

How can I be so inexpensive? I have a full time job as an IS manager, so if I don't take on any additional work, I'm still okay financially. Because I can work so quickly, I can work evenings and weekends, putting together sites in anywhere from a day or two to a week. It is not uncommon for me to put in 50-60 hours a week in my SMT work. If you're still a bit wary, I can't say that I blame you. I see advertisements for $100 websites by development novices or someone who is using offshore developers, and in those cases, you don't even get what you pay for.

I do expect something from my clients and that is preparation. Be prepared to send me a Word document with the content for all of your pages. This will include an index that represents your website categories or navigation "tabs". If you know you want a registration system, eCommerce, or any other more sophisticated system, then you will need to describe what kind of functionality you expect from it.

If you think this seems a bit excessive, consider that my business is based on time. If you take steps to save me time, you save money. Because I don't get mired in editing content and second-guessing how something should function, my projects go a lot smoother. I may not make as much money, but it makes each project much more straightforward.

All initial consultations are free, so give me a call and let me quote your next project. I'm certain you'll recognize the difference of working with someone who develops not only websites, but working relationships.
